Do You Have Questions?

I realize this may be your first time working with a financial planner and I welcome your questions.

Here are some that get frequently asked:

Q: Why do I need to meet with you when there are online tools for planning?

A: Online tools are convenient, but they aren’t personal. When we work with you, we develop a plan for you based on your individual goals, and we provide ongoing monitoring and implementation. What works for you today may not work tomorrow. We can adapt our services to your needs as they fluctuate.

Q: Do I need to have a lot of money saved before I can work with you?

A: No, we work with people of all wealth levels. Our goal is to provide personal service as we empower and educate you along the way.

Q: How much does it cost to work with you?

A: Our compensation varies according to the customized services you choose. However, as a fee-only financial planner, there are a set of transparent fees according to your complexity. No matter what financial plan we develop for you, we disclose all fees and costs with complete transparency. Project fees typically range from $2,800-$7,000. Investment management fees are billed as a percentage of assets under management on a tiered fee schedule.

Q: What is a fee-only financial planner?

A: A fee-only Certified Financial Planner® is a financial professional who is paid directly through their clients. Depending on the firm, fee-only financial planners charge based on a flat fee, hourly rate, fee schedule based on services, or a percentage of an individual’s managed assets. Fee-only advisors are focused on their clients’ needs, not on making commissions based on products.

Q: What is something different about working with you compared to other planners?

A: We are a fee-only fiduciary holistic financial planning practice that emphasizes socially responsible investing and philanthropy. In addition, we work with DIY investors, something very few advisors do. At Equi Financial Planning, we think it is important that our values align with who we work with. Since we place such a high value on helping the community, we ask that each client is comfortable with allocating a portion of their investments (large or small) to a social movement or ethical cause they believe in. This is our philosophy of paying it forward.

Q: What’s a Donor Advised Fund?

A: A Donor Advised Fund is a charitable giving investment account designed to invest, grow, and give assets to charities for meaningful and lasting impact. We recommend Schwab Charitable Fund and do not charge investment management fees on DAF accounts.

Q: Can I be your client if I don’t live in your area?

A: Yes, with today’s technology we can generally serve clients across the US using virtual meetings.
